Skin boosters have become hugely popular since they were launched. These unique injectable moisturising treatments improve the luminosity and overall condition of your skin, whilst correcting and preventing the signs of ageing. They repair and deeply hydrate, as opposed to adding volume, and have light refractive properties so give a wonderful boost to skin, restoring elasticity, firmness and radiance.
Administered in the form of safe, micro injections with a very fine needle, skin boosters are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), a soft gel-like substance which occurs naturally in the body and depletes over time. HA can hold 10,000 times its weight in water, hence the intense hydration it provides. Injectable moisturisers spread evenly throughout your face, attracting water as they do so, softening lines, hydrating skin and resulting in a dewy texture. Some boosters also contain antioxidants, vitamins and minerals which further improve skin quality – this powerful cocktail administered across your face and / or neck gives an instant, noticeable brightness.
At Waterhouse Young, we offer a number of skin boosting injectables, including Profhilo, Teoxane Redensity 1, Viscoderm Hydrobooster and Restylane skin boosters. The first step is to talk to one of our expert aesthetic doctors so they can recommend the most appropriate product for your individual skin to give the best possible result.
Treatment Guide & FAQs
What happens first?
Before you have your first treatment with us, we will invite you to an initial consultation with one of our aesthetic doctors. During this consultation, we’ll discuss any relevant medical history and lifestyle factors that might affect your skin and also what type of treatment would be most suitable. We’ll then carry out the latest Visia computerised skin analysis which takes magnified 3D images of your face. We will also make a visual assessment of your skin and talk with you about your expectations and desired result. Having gathered this valuable information, we’ll have a good understanding of which treatment you need to give you the best outcome. We’ll then create a bespoke treatment plan that is focused entirely on you as an individual.
Will you suggest other treatments?
It may be that you come to us thinking you need one type of treatment but that we are able to suggest a more suitable alternative. Whatever the case, we will very much consider your individual needs and give you an honest assessment, including realistic expectations of the outcomes of your treatment.
What happens during a skin booster treatment?
Once we’ve cleansed your skin, we’ll apply a topical anaesthetic cream for 20-30 minutes before injecting micro amounts of the product, using a very fine needle, into a number of injection sites. As we are targeting areas across your whole face (and / or neck or hands), working with great care and precision, the treatment itself can take up to 30 minutes.
How often will I need to have a skin booster treatment?
The number of treatments you require depends on the specific skin booster being used – each booster has its own protocol – and the condition of your skin. The doctor will discuss what will give you the optimum result – for instance, one treatment may be sufficient or several weekly treatments may be recommended. After your initial treatment(s), you may opt to have a maintenance skin booster treatment in a few months’ time to maintain results. With Profhilo, for example, the majority of people have two treatments spaced a month apart and then, to maintain the effects, a single top up treatment in 3 months’ time.
What do skin boosters treat?
Skin boosters are ideal for ageing, uneven, dull or dehydrated skin, or any complexions in need of a general boost. Common treatment areas include the face, neck, décolletage and hands. These relatively new treatments were hotly anticipated as the first ‘injectable moisturisers’, delivering overall skin rejuvenation and hydration. Made from a different form of hyaluronic acid, they disperse evenly in the area of injected skin, instantly enhancing hydration and radiance; and, in the case of Profhilo, stimulating deep skin remodelling. Previously, you may have had anti-wrinkle injections (such as Botox) to soften forehead lines and crow’s feet and, whilst these temporarily relax muscle movement in the area and soften lines, the actual lines may still be present. Skin boosters, conversely, administer micro droplets of product evenly all over your face, smoothing lines as they simultaneously hydrate, plump, lift and rejuvenate skin. Their light refractive properties also create a more even complexion and, if your skin is dehydrated, the hyaluronic acid will help it to retain water, resulting in a dewy and radiant appearance.
Do skin boosters hurt?
As a topical anaesthetic cream is applied, you’ll barely feel the injections being administered.
How long will treatment take?
Treatment will take from 20 to 75 minutes, depending on which treatment you are having, whether numbing cream is required and on how many places we need to inject. We’ll know more once you have had your consultation with us.
How much does it cost
A single treatment costs from around £500 – price varies slightly according to which skin booster you need.
