A PCA Peel combines various acids and vitamins to improve the tone, texture and clarity of the skin, tackling problems at a cellular level instead of simply sloughing off the top layer of skin. We typically use PCA Peels to reduce or remove hyperpigmentation (including melasma), acne and acne scars, and to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The peel stimulates the production of collagen, giving firmer and more youthful looking skin after just one treatment. As well as delivering amazing results as a facial peel, it can also be used to remove hyperpigmentation from the hands and chest, and to eliminate wrinkles on the décolletage. The PCA Peel is particularly convenient because no pre-treatment skin conditioning is required and the treatment is virtually painless.
Treatment Guide & FAQs
What happens first?
Before we carry out any treatment, we will ask you to book an initial consultation with our aesthetic doctor. During this consultation, we’ll take a full medical history and carry out the latest Visia computerised skin analysis to take magnified 3D images of your face.
We’ll also carry out a visual assessment of your skin and talk to you about your needs, hopes and expectations. We’ll find out a bit more about lifestyle factors that might not only affect your skin, but also what type of treatment would be most suitable. Having gathered all this valuable information, we’ll create a bespoke treatment plan that is entirely focused on you as an individual.
Will you suggest other treatments?
It may be that you come to us thinking you need one type of treatment but that we are able to suggest a more suitable alternative. Whatever the case, we will very much consider your individual needs and give you an honest assessment, including realistic expectations of the outcomes of your treatment.
Would a PCA Peel be right for me?
A PCA Peel is a painless skin peel that, as well as repairing and restoring damaged skin, offers a preventative maintenance option for younger skin that currently has no visible signs of damage. One of the many benefits of a PCA Peel is that it is suitable for all skin types, including darker skin.
What can a PCA peel be used to treat?
The PCA Peel can be used to improve the tone, texture and clarity of your skin. We typically use PCA Peels to reduce or remove hyperpigmentation (including melasma), acne and acne scars, and to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The peel stimulates the production of collagen, giving a firmer and more youthful looking skin after just one treatment. As well as delivering amazing results as a facial peel, it can also be used to remove hyperpigmentation from the hands and chest, and to eliminate wrinkles on the décolletage. PCA Peels also work well in conjunction with lasers and injectable treatments, and so may be used as part of a wider treatment plan.
What happens during a treatment?
We will begin the treatment by cleansing your skin before applying the PCA Peel topically. After the first layer, you may feel a very slight tingling. After a short while, we will apply another layer which you may feel a little more. The feeling soon subsides and then another layer will be applied, at which point your skin will be numb. It will take us between 20 to 30 minutes for the entire treatment but you will need to leave the peel on your skin for at least four hours after your appointment. We will give you products and clear aftercare instructions.
Will it hurt?
PCA Peels are virtually painless. You may experience a slight stinging sensation when the peel is first applied but it will then numb you skin, so the feeling subsides almost immediately.
How long will a PCA Peel treatment take?
A PCA Peel appointment (including time to cleanse your skin before the treatment begins) takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
When should I see results from my treatment?
Immediately after your PCA Peel, you may notice that your skin looks only ever so slightly tanned or red, but this should settle down quickly (almost before you leave the clinic). On days one and two post-treatment, your skin may feel slightly tighter and you may notice that pigmented areas appear slightly darker but this is a sign that the peel is working. Your skin will start to peel on day three – usually around the mouth area first – and continue for the next 24 to 48 hours. We will give you moisturiser to apply. By day six or seven, you will be able to see the stunning results of your peel – your skin will look firmer, clearer and have a healthy, youthful glow. You will continue to see improvements in your skin quality for the next four to six weeks.
How many PCA Peel treatments will I need?
You should only need a single PCA Peel; however, if another is required, you will need to leave 40 days between treatments. After just one treatment, our patients notice that their skin looks significantly repaired, even improving the appearance of sun damage and acne. For the best results, you might want to consider booking a PCA Peel three to four times a year so that we can help you maintain your stunning post-treatment healthy glow.
How long will the results last?
You can prolong the outstanding result of your PCA Peel by following a good skincare regimen, which includes protecting your skin from sun exposure. We will advise you on how best to protect your skin when you visit us for your appointment.
Is a PCA Peel safe?
A PCA Peel has very few hazards and complications that are often associated with other skin peels. You may experience some mild redness immediately after your treatment and skin sensitivity can last for up to four days while your skin works to restore its pH balance.
How much does it cost
Prices vary depending on the area(s) to be treated but we will discuss treatment options and a proposed treatment plan during your initial consultation, including a full breakdown of the costs.
