Micro-needling

Dermarolling is a micro-medical skin-needling procedure that stimulates the skin to help it naturally regenerate and repair itself. The Dermaroller, a small hand-held device covered with 192 microscopic needles, makes thousands of microscopic needle holes in the skin without damaging it. This prompts the treated area to produce new collagen and elastin, alongside generating new cells in order to heal.

Stimulate natural skin repair

We use Dermaroller because it’s an all-round rejuvenation treatment that gives great results for lots of skin conditions, leaving skin smoother, brighter, healthier and younger-looking. eDS Skin Rejuvenation™ works on the same principles but includes an electronic mechanism that lets us change the depth of the micro-needles and the speed with which they move over your skin. This gives us greater control over how we treat a range of skin problems, as well as enhancing your comfort and the effectiveness of the procedure.

Micro-needling treatment guide & FAQs

Before we carry out any treatment, we will ask you to book an initial consultation with one of our aesthetic doctors. Here we will take a full medical history and, if required, carry out a Visia computerised skin analysis that allows us to examine magnified 3D images of your face.

We will also carry out a visual assessment of your skin and talk to you about your needs, hopes and expectations. Having gathered all this valuable information, we will then have a better understanding of which treatment you need to achieve the best outcome.

It may be that you come to us with a specific treatment in mind however, if on assessment, we feel an alternative might be more appropriate then we’ll let you know. Whatever the case, we will very much consider your individual needs and give you an honest assessment, including realistic expectations of the outcomes of your treatment.

If you’re currently pregnant or breastfeeding, then you are not a suitable candidate for Dermaroller treatments at this point in time. Equally, we may need to look at alternative treatment options if you suffer from irritated or infected skin, fungal skin infections, active acne, rosacea, eczema or psoriasis, severe solar keratosis (rough, scaly patches on the skin caused by sub damage), raised moles, warts, open wounds or sores. If you suffer with cold sores, please let us know as we may recommend that you take Acyclovir to prevent an outbreak. This can be arranged though the clinic.

By encouraging the skin to produce new collagen and skin cells, and enhancing the blood supply to the treated areas, Dermaroller or eDS therapy can noticeably improve the appearance of acne scarring, aged and sun-damaged skin, facial and décolletage lines and wrinkles, as well as stretch marks.

We’ll apply a local anaesthetic cream 30 minutes before your micro-needling treatment. This will help to numb your skin to make the treatment comfortable. During the treatment, we’ll create thousands of microscopic needle holes in the skin (these close rapidly). We’ll apply an anti-inflammatory face mask for about 10-15 minutes afterwards to help soothe and calm the treated area.

We apply a local anaesthetic before treatment to numb the entire area so only very minimum sensation is felt – occasionally, people say they can feel slight prickling but that it is minor and not uncomfortable.

As we need to apply a local anaesthetic cream, we allow two hours for the complete treatment, which includes using a soothing anti-inflammatory mask to help calm the skin. While you wait for the anaesthetic cream to take effect, you will be able to relax in comfort.

Both Dermaroller therapy and eDS Skin Rejuvenation work by stimulating your body’s production of collagen and elastin. This isn’t an overnight process as it takes time for new collagen to form, new skin cells to generate and for the blood supply to the area to improve. This means it can take up to six weeks after your treatment before you see visible signs of regeneration and repair. Within the first two weeks, your skin will begin to look brighter and more vibrant. By six weeks, it will be tighter and areas of pigmentation, scarring, lines and wrinkles should all be visibly reduced. The natural regeneration process will continue over several months, so the condition of your skin should continue to improve.

For the best results, we recommend three Dermaroller treatments scheduled a minimum of six to eight weeks apart. If we are treating stretch marks or acne scarring, you may need up to five treatments.

Many people choose to have a follow-up treatment six to nine months after the initial course is complete to maintain the results.

We will discuss your treatment options and proposed treatment plan during your initial consultation, including a full breakdown of the costs. Prices start from £500.

Clinical tests have not shown any side effects to these treatments when they are performed by a trained skin care professional in an approved clinic like WY. Immediately after your treatment, you will look as though you have moderate sunburn and it’s usual for your skin to feel warmer and tighter than usual. This usually subsides one to two hours after treatment and your skin should return to normal the same day. You may notice some redness the following day, which can be covered with make-up 12 hours after your treatment.
