Wrinkle treatments using Botox can reduce or even remove the appearance of the fine lines and wrinkles that are a classic giveaway of age. We treat typical problem areas such as brow and frown lines, smoker’s lines and crow’s feet, as well as more advanced areas such as neck bands or the corners of your mouth. Botox works by blocking nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in their movement. As many of the fine lines and wrinkles on our faces are caused by the repeated contraction of our facial muscles, Botox can significantly reduce their appearance.
As with all of our injectable treatments, we take a ‘less is more’ approach to anti-wrinkle treatments, treating patients conservatively to achieve natural, balanced results. Once you’ve had an initial consultation with us, we’ll be able to advise if this is the best treatment for you.
Treatment Guide & FAQs
What happens first?
Before we carry out any treatment, we will ask you to book an initial consultation with our aesthetic doctor. During this consultation, we’ll take a full medical history and carry out the latest Visia computerised skin analysis to take magnified 3D images of your face.
We’ll also carry out a visual assessment of your skin and talk to you about your needs, hopes and expectations. We’ll find out a bit more about lifestyle factors that might not only affect your skin, but also what type of treatment would be most suitable. Having gathered all this valuable information, we’ll have a better understanding of which treatment you need and where they should be injected to give you the best outcome. We’ll create a bespoke treatment plan that is entirely focused on you as an individual.
Will you suggest other treatments?
It may be that you come to us thinking you need one type of treatment but that we are able to suggest a more suitable alternative. Whatever the case, we will very much consider your individual needs and give you an honest assessment, including realistic expectations of the outcomes of your treatment.
Which ‘Botox’ do you use?
Although Botox is a brand name, it is also the household name for anti-wrinkle injections, just like Hoover is the household name for a vacuum cleaner. There are several different brands of anti-wrinkle injections and it’s important to know that you are being injected with what you think you are. At WY we use actual Botox as, for us, it is the best product to use. Some products can be cheaper but the effects may not last as long. Make sure you are shown which product you are about to be injected with.
What training has your practitioner had?
If you’re in a reputable clinic then more than likely you’ll be very safe with this as recruitment processes are strong. However, it is possible for some practitioners to have a two hour training session and be deemed fit to practice. This is obviously concerning so, if you are seeing an independent practitioner, do check their credentials. Don’t be shy: ask them if they have been on advanced training courses and how many people they have treated. If you don’t feel safe, you do not have to be treated – make your excuses and leave.
Does it hurt?
We now use ‘invisible’ needles when we administer cosmetic injections which means you will barely feel anything in comparison to traditional needles used in the past. Our doctors have a great deal of skill and experience carrying out this treatment so they are quick and focused on making sure that you feel comfortable at all times.
How long does treatment take?
You may have heard Botox wrinkle treatments referred to as a ‘lunchtime’ procedure – this is because the injections can be done relatively quickly. Naturally, it depends on the size of the area being treated but treatment usually takes less than 30 minutes. Of course, we’ll never rush your treatment – we want you to feel relaxed, informed and in safe hands every step of the way.
Is a two week review offered?
As with most reputable clinics or practitioners, we offer you a complimentary two week review after each anti-wrinkle treatment, not just after your first. Even if you’re happy with the result it’s important to attend as your practitioner will want to see that they have the best result for you and, if not, they can give a little tweak. There is no charge for this appointment unless you decide to have another area treated.
What is ‘Baby Botox’?
Baby Botox is a term for having less product injected. It gives you the option to continue to have movement and expression post treatment and not to be frozen. Baby Botox gives a very natural and soft result but may not last as long as less product has been injected.
Why anti-wrinkle and not dermal fillers?
Anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers are two very different treatments. Anti-wrinkle injections are used to relax the wrinkle-making muscles so are a great choice for the forehead, crow’s feet, neck bands etc. Dermal fillers are used to replace lost volume, contour, lift and sculpt the face.
Will friends/family be able to tell that I’ve had ‘something’ done?
This all depends on your treating practitioner and their injecting style but ideally not. At WY we treat very conservatively so that you have a nice natural look.
How much does Botox cost?
Different clinics charge in different ways. More often than not, you’ll hear about areas being charged for e.g. one area might be the forehead. At WY we charge for the amount of Botox used so that our doctors have more scope and they are not restricted to specific areas. It is an art, after all, and not a one size fits all treatment.
